Jewish Card Revoked

a party game about jewish culture, from gefilte fish to guilt trips.

Brief

Flying Leap Games is producing a new card game based on Black Card Revoked, and licensed by Cards for All People. How might we create a fun gaming experience that is related to but distinct from the original game? In a sea of party games, how will Jewish Card Revoked stand out on the shelf and appeal to a diverse Jewish community?

Solution

The styling of Jewish Card Revoked refers back to the packaging of Black Card Revoked, with a pattern of community-specific icons that make the packaging fun relatable. The card layout is bold and accessible.

Research and Process

Black Card Revoked is a card game with numerous editions, sold online and in major retailers such as Target. Cards for All People makes fun card games based on cultural milestones and moments, and seek to bring people of all types together through laughter and friendly debate.

Together with my client, I determined that Jewish Card Revoked should be viewed almost as a sub-brand of Black Card Revoked. Black Card Revoked is a popular phrase on its own, with a trending Twitter hashtag. Jewish Card Revoked is not a commonly used phrased on its own, and so presenting the game as an offshoot of Black Card Revoked would position the new game clearly.

Tuck Box

Because of its small size, readability and recognition were high level priorities for the tuck box. The icons are recognizable aspects of Jewish culture, and were selected to appeal to a broad swath of community.

Cards

The game includes 82 question cards, sets of voting cards, and separate cards for rules and social media information. The cards were designed to be simple, bold, and very easy to read, mirroring the Black Card Revoked question cards. The card backs bring in the box color to tie the experience together.
